I Know Christmas is over but this scene shows more of a need of inspiration. What better time for musical inspiration than Christmas. Hint that it is Christmas, the Christmas Tree in the right hand corner. Also notice whats sitting on the piano; an Oboe, sheet music and the picture of some one at a piano.
Lastly the clutter of crumpled papers, articles of clothing and the bottle of wine shows that the pianist is a man who is in a sort of distress. The world is a sad place, content, but sad.
